Find Out Everything About Playgrounds
When you think about playgrounds you must keep in mind that the safety of the children comes first. What children most like doing is to run. They can use the swings, slides and monkey bars, but they´ll always be running. As a result they fall, this being the most common accident according to statistics (79%). This is why the floor is of utmost importance after the toys, which in turn should be compatible to the size of the space.
The best is to have a place where the children can sit in a circle, playing with their own toys. The ideal is that the fixed toys should occupy no more than 50% of the space.
The floor should be soft and able to absorb impacts, durable and sun resistant. Another fundamental care is not to place obstacles in and, if possible, also around an area where the child can get hurt. One should never put vases, benches, or lamp posts nor delimit the area with cement vases or walls.
If possible, plant a tree for shade, another important aspect frequently disregarded by those in charge of planning the playground area. Sunstrokes are quite common. Benches may be used but always in places such to avoid impact with the children.
Plants and flowers should be out of the children´s reach and should be carefully chosen so as not to intoxicate them. It is also useful to be familiar with the norms ABNT NBR 14350. If you can check out the international norms of countries such as Holland, New Zealand or Canada, you will see that their demands are much stricter.
The products used in the playground should be high quality products so that the children can play freely without the risk of breaking them. It is not the children who break the toys. The toys break because they are no good. Savings should be done with adults, the children deserve the best.
The floor also should not come loose or create bubbles. Materials harmful to children´s health should not be used because they´re going to lie down and roll on the floor.
